Characteristics, challenges & opportunities of inclusive learner engagement in VET
The landscape of Vocational Education and Training (VET) is changing, reflecting society’s evolution. Tomorrow’s challenges demand skills beyond current knowledge, necessitating a holistic approach to prepare all VET students. Active student engagement is crucial, requiring inclusive environments within VET institutions.
However, many learners face specific challenges and barriers for feeling an integral part of the institution and able to take part in learner engagement activities. In order to address these barriers, we must understand them and work towards representing all learners on different levels.
This mapping report aims to increase sector awareness of the often overlooked role of learner engagement in the overall learning journeys, and to address obstacles faced by underrepresented students. The report marks the initial step in addressing inclusive engagement within VET institutions. It stems from comprehensive research conducted in 2023 and sets the stage for future initiatives under the InclusiVET project.
